Drama Essay: Character Analysis

By the due date assigned, submit your three-paragraph character analysis essay as a Microsoft Word attachment. This short essay should be at least 500 words and at least three paragraphs in length, including an introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion.

Directions
For this essay, you are writing an analysis of one of the characters in one of our 10-minute plays: What Are You Going To Be?, Magic 8 Ball, and Zombie Love.

Tips
In this short essay, be sure that you have the following: an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, at least one body paragraph with supporting reasons, examples, and quotations from the play, and a concluding paragraph. The thesis statement should represent your main argument analyzing the character you have chosen.

The Thesis Statement
To develop your thesis statement, choose two or three descriptive words to define your character. From these words, what main point could you argue about the character in an essay? This opinion or judgment is your thesis statement. Once you have your thesis, choose supporting evidence (quotations and examples from the play) for the body paragraph.

Brainstorming Questions
You may use the following brainstorming questions below to generate ideas if you like. It is fine to continue with your character analysis that you started this week in the discussion area for this essay assignment.

Choose one play, and select one character from that play. Consider these questions as you think about your character: What does he or she want? What conflict does this character encounter? How do they attempt to get their desire? What prevents them from achieving it? Does the character change or grow? What is the resolution by the end of the play for this character? After thinking about these questions, develop your thesis statement.

Reminders

Use APA style, including a title page, in-text citations, and a separate references page.
Do NOT use outside sources to complete this response; use only on your own insights.
Quoted material from the play should not exceed 25% of the essay.
You may exceed the minimum word and paragraph count.

IN MLA FORMAT 5-page Analysis Paper on the common these Heroes vs Monsters between Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Little Red Cap by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, and Beowulf by Seamus Heaney. college application essay help

The common theme I will be looking at for my capstone project is going to be heroes vs monsters. Beowulf, Little Red, and Hamlet are 3 unrelated stories that can all show that heroes are selfless and complete kind acts for others meanwhile monsters are selfish and are willing to sacrifice others and their needs. For my capstone paper, I’m using Beowulf as the main character that should be examined for his heroism. I will be using Hamlet’s character to be described as a monster for his violent acts after the loss of his father. For Little Red, I will be using the story as a whole where little red is courageous and the wolf is the monster after Little Reds’ grandma. Works Cited Sources: Please use at least four of the works we have considered over the course of this semester – this includes poems (both Beowulf and the shorted poems), plays, and short stories. Elements: 1) You may create an original argument which ties together multiple works we have covered over the course of the semester; You may have already developed a theme over the course of the semester that you would like to pursue further. You will be expected to examine multiple pieces of literature individually, as well as in relation to each other. This thesis-driven portion of your essay will comprise your first 5 pages and maintain an objective tone. 2) After you have brought out and sustained your thesis, you must follow up by discussing a societal example of your chosen theme/unifying idea as it relates to the literature you have explored. One page should be devoted to this relevant connection. 3)Your final page can offer a personal reflection on what you have learned in the course in terms of academic skills and/or in terms of self-awareness gained from reading, annotating, writing and class discussion.( Remember: this is NOT meant to be a teacher evaluation – that link will be provided online) This page alone may employ the use of ‘personals’, such as ‘I’, ‘me’, and ‘my’.

Ethical Issues Powerpoint college admissions essay help: college admissions essay help

Create an 8 slide PPT, or some other presentation, that accomplishes the following:

Chose some ethical issue you feel is important (abortion, gun control, climate change, eating meat, anything that can be considered a moral matter – if you are unsure, be sure to clear with your instructor)

Present research on the situation being sure to clearly discuss both sides, as much as possible. Some conundrums will have much more weight on one side than the other such as climate change.

Reiterate the primary theories contained in your moral compass from week 3 and then explain the position on this issue your compass promotes.

Include a proper references/works cited slide (APA or MLA).

For example, say you want to address gender-neutral bathrooms in public buildings. First, present some research from sources promoting that they should exist and from sources promoting they should not.

PLEASE REVIEW AND MAKE CORRECTIONS IN PART 1 AND PLEASE COMPLETE PART 2. PLEASE REVIEW ATTACHMENTS TO COMPLETE THE SECTIONS BELOW. THANKS.
PART 1: Evaluate and Make the Decision by comparing the alternatives based on the objectives. This process is achieved in Step Four by creating two decision matrices – unweighted and weighted.
STEP 1: Create the Unweighted Matrix
Use a scale of 0 – 3 to rate the first decision matrix. (0 being does not meet the objective well to 3 being meets the objective well).
The decision matrices must have the four objectives and four alternatives from the previous week’s discussions.
Explain WHY and HOW Harry derived the ranking of the objectives and alternatives (each of the individual numbers) in the first matrix. Review the House Buying Example.
STEP 2: Create the Weighted Matrix
Assign a percentage to each of the objectives.
These weights must total to 100% for the second (weighted) decision matrix. Remember these do not change for each alternative. but are applied to each objective.  Post the second decision matrix in the text box (weighted).
Explain WHY and HOW Harry derived each of the weights for the objectives.
STEP 3: Evaluate
Based on the results of the Decision Matrices, evaluate and analyze all of HH’s alternatives and objectives.
State the final decision by explaining and justifying it with the numbers in the matrix.  The final decision is based on the matrices
Make sure that all of your steps make sense with one another and fully align so that your final decision completely lines up with the rest of the steps in the process.
Part 2. Create a report to the internal stakeholders of the company to discuss the decision that you have made regarding moving forward in a way that fixes the financial situation that outlines exactly how you have come to the decision. In your memo, you want to provide specifics, some of which have been established throughout the first 6 weeks of the course. All conclusions, justifications, reasoning’s, and explanations must be supported with course material in the form of APA in-text citations (page/paragraph numbers required) and a reference list.
Biases that may impact the process
Triggers/Opportunities leading to the need for a decision
Goal of Decision – What is the overall goal and why?
Decision Statement
Purpose, Scope, and Perspective – How did you frame this statement?
Four Objectives – Of the 6, why these?
Alternatives and how they met your objectives. Were these your original alternatives or were there class discussions that brought forth new ideas?
Your decision matrices (weighted and unweighted) and how you chose to weight each criteria
Your final decision – Assessing the Decision Process, which is where Harry will state the final decision and how it fulfills HH’s objectives by examining the MDQ process in how that final decision was derived.

The Setup
Groucho Marx once said, “Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it and then misapplying the wrong remedies.” If only he knew how right he was… January 2021. There is a new president in the White House. 2020 was an exciting election for sure. Trump? Biden? Sanders? Harris? Warren? All interesting. But not as interesting as the real surprise candidate. Who was this mysterious stranger? Mitt Romney? No. Michael Bloomberg? Hardly. Arnold Schwarzenegger? Getting closer. Your new President of the United States is: Justin Bieber??? That is right. In a stunning move (and after a constitutional amendment for those who noted that Mr. Bieber is both Canadian and under 35 years of age), the country decided that if they were going to spend the next four years following someone’s every move, it might as well be an entertaining train wreck. Heaven help us all. Only one problem. Mr. Bieber, for all his wonderful qualities, knows nothing of American government and politics. Fortunately for him, he has picked the right person as his new domestic policy advisor: YOU! So get to work, and don’t mind the screaming fans

This week your rotation assignment takes you to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
An external audit of cheap essay help: cheap essay help

This week your rotation assignment takes you to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

An external audit of the company’s financial operations has just been completed. Last week, an “early look” copy of the audit was sent to the CFO with a request for a formal written response for each of the findings. Some of the problem areas were known to the CFO’s staff and they were already working on the required responses. But, there is one set of findings that came as a complete surprise — Shadow IT — the unauthorized / unapproved use of cashless payment technologies by certain locations and offices within the company. These technologies included:

1. Micro payments using a payment card issued by guest services to hotel guests and via unattended vending machines to visitors. These payment cards are loaded with a cash value deposited to the card’s account via a credit card charge. Guest services also credits some of these payment card accounts with “reward dollars” for guests who belong to the hotel’s affinity program. The payment cards are used at service locations which do not have a cashier station. e.g. game arcade, self-service laundry or sales kiosk, etc. The payments are processed by a third party service provider which then uses an electronic funds transfer to pay the hotel its share of the income.

2. Mobile Payments for services booked through the concierge desk with an authorized but independent provider (not a hotel employee). These services include: private lessons with a tennis or golf pro, childcare, tours and tour guides, interpreters, etc. These payments are made by cell phone either as a mobile payment using a contactless payment system such as Apple Pay or by swiping a credit card through a magnetic stripe reader connected to the provider’s cell phone. The payment accounts which receive the guests’ payments are connected to the hotel’s merchant card accounts. The hotel pays the providers monthly via electronic deposit and issues an IRS Form 1099 to record the income.

The CFO must make a presentation to the IT Governance board about these payment systems as a first step towards either getting approval for continued use or issuing a “cease and desist” directive to force the rogue offices and locations to stop using the unapproved payment systems. The presentation must include information about known or suspected compliance issues for PCI-DSS. The IT Governance board has previously asked project sponsors for information about potential privacy and security issues.

Due to the size and complexity of the problem, the CFO has split the available staff into two teams. Team #1 will focus on the micro payment cards. Team #2 will focus on the mobile payment systems. You have been asked to join one of these two teams and assist with their research. (Note: you *must* pick one and only one of the two technologies to focus on for your discussion paper this week.)

Your team leader has asked you to read the provided background information (see the Week 7 readings) and then put together a 2 page summary of the important points from your readings. You have also been asked to help identify and describe/explain 5 or more privacy and security issues that could arise in conjunction with the use of the technology being studied by your team. Remember to keep your focus on the financial aspects of the technology implementation since you are contributing to the CFO’s effort. (Financial aspects include how payments are made, what types of information are exchanged and with whom, how that information is protected, etc.)

Provide in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your summary paper (APA format recommended).

In MGT407, they will be assessed at the “reinforced” level. Finally, in MGT491, your written communication skills will be assessed at the “emphasized” level. The grading rubric for written communication at the undergraduate level has been developed to measure student success in meeting the MGT302 Case 3 expectations. Rubrics for the other two courses are included in their respective assignments.
This Module 3 Case Assignment has two functions. First, it helps you develop and demonstrate your understanding of the topics in Module 3. Second, it will help to assess the development of your written communications skills. This Case will be graded using a special Written Communications Rubric, which you should review before you begin writing the assignment. (Students can find the rubric to an assignment from the course homepage under Module Activities, then clicking on the Dropbox link, then looking in lower right-hand corner for the rubric.)
Case Assignment
For this assignment, your deliverable is a 4- to 5-page essay, not counting the cover or reference pages, of an analysis of the use of teams in the following case study scenario. You will draw on the background material and your analysis of the scenario presented below to help you address the questions at the end of this case study.
In this second Case Assignment, the assignment is going to test your understanding of how successful teams operate efficiently through teamwork. Teamwork relies upon individuals to work together to achieve common team goals through sharing knowledge and skills. Successful teamwork relies upon synergism existing between all team members and the creation of an environment where they are all willing to contribute and participate to promote and nurture a positive, effective team environment. Team members must be flexible enough to adapt to a cooperative work environment where goals are achieved through collaboration and social interdependence rather than placement of their focus on individualized, competitive goals.
Please see Table 1 on pages 642 and 643 in Terricone and Luca (2002). It provides a summary of literature on the successful attributes needed for effective teamwork as follows:
Commitment to team success and shared goals – team members are committed to the success of the team and their shared goals for the project. Successful teams are motivated, engaged and aim to achieve at the highest level;
Interdependence – team members need to create an environment where together they can contribute far more than as individuals. A positive interdependent team environment brings out the best in each person enabling the team to achieve their goals at a far superior level (Johnson

course, your project assignments will recommend and defend a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for a global, publicly traded organization. In Week 1, you will select a global, publicly traded organization. (Hint: The Fortune 500 list of companies is a good source for this kind of information). You will need to research the chosen organization through primary and secondary sources and investigate the organization’s mission and vision statement and code of ethics. Begin thinking about a potential social cause you might recommend for the organization (that is different than any current social cause the organization pursues). best essay help

For example, you may decide that you want to select Google as your global, publicly traded organization. In doing research on Google, you find that it supports a number of charities, including improving computer science education, empowering women and girls, and fighting trafficking and child abuse. However, for this session-long project, you should identify another cause for Google to support beyond what it is already doing. Tasks: Citing research from a variety of sources, including the company’s website, social media sites, company blogs, industry and trade sources, and other sources, provide a summary of the organization, including the organization’s products or services, customer or client base, areas of operation or distribution, history, main competition, and the organization’s current situation. Analyze the mission, vision, and values of this organization. Evaluate the ethical principles and policy under which the organization works. Defend the reasons (e.g., personal, professional) and rationale leading you to select the organization. What drew you to this particular organization? response to the following 5 questions. Please number responses based on instructions college admission essay help: college admission essay help

(1) Give examples from your employment history where you witnessed moral hazard in the workplace. What were the incentives that gave rise to moral hazard? Did the firm take steps to eliminate moral hazard? (2) When the labor market is not in equilibrium, incentives have the potential to move salaries toward equilibrium, and vice versa. Do you think, therefore, offering of incentive have to be an essential component of a company’s hiring practice in order to ensure that the labor market remain competitive and minimize unemployment? Please discuss your answer. (3) Begin by locating a scholarly article regarding the effects of increases on minimum wages and discuss its findings. Does a minimum wage increase lead to reductions in employment, or is the overall effect on employment net positive? Do you agree or disagree with the results of the study? What do you think are other vital considerations that should be taken into account in the study? Discuss how conscious capitalism would approach a minimum wage increase. Provide examples to support your rationale. (4)Some argue that an example of a moral hazard an organization might face relating to labor markets would be an employee who is morally irresponsible in a commission based job.” It is my understanding that if a commission-based employee does not perform well, his payment (commission) declines. He/she may even be fired. Please help me understand where and how you content that this is an example of moral hazard? (5) Another aspect of moral hazard is the nature of contract. For example, in work place if there is collective bargaining or if there is no way that an employee can be fired for under-performance or the salary can be increased regardless of how well the employee performs, there will be less incentive to do well and enhance the company’s performance. Similarly, if an employee’s health is insured, there is less incentive to take measures that will make the employee healthy. Do you think the presence of these kind of contracts negatively affect employee morale, company’s or organization’s growth and even the growth of a country? Please discuss your answer.

The following story is a fictional account of planning and preparation leading up to the mythical Democratic-Republican National Convention college admission essay help

The following story is a fictional account of planning and preparation leading up to the mythical
Democratic-Republican National Convention (DRNC) event in Miami, Florida. The story is
loosely based on an amalgamation of real life occurrences in the lead up to the Free Trade Area
of the Americas conference in Miami, Florida in 2003. The names of all the characters in the
story are fictional.
Case Study
Political conventions have long attracted protestors from myriad political and social action
groups from all over the world. Organizations such as Greenpeace, the Earth Liberation Front
(ELF), the Earth Liberation Army (ELA), and Earth First! view large scale special events such as
the DRNC as a perfect opportunity to bring attention to their causes. These political action
groups view the large scale events as ideal venues because of the large number of people
gathering at the same time, at the same place, and for the same purpose. Where there are large
concentrations of television cameras and reporters, it is fairly predictable that the political action
groups will come to make a statement and get “free” publicity for their movement.
That was the case in 2003, where Greenpeace and several other environmental organizations
came to protest, first in Cancun, Mexico for the World Trade Organization, and later that year in
Miami, Florida, for the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) Conference. Miami, of course is
now the selected site for the upcoming DRNC convention. It can be reasonably expected that
these political action groups will once again come to the South Florida area to take advantage of
the “free” television coverage.
In 2003, the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted and boarded the Greenpeace ship Esperanza off the
Port of Miami, one week before the FTAA Conference. A search of the ship by Coast Guard
personnel revealed several large wooden crates filled with canvass, ropes, cables, carabiners,
PVC pipes, and other tools and supplies expressly used by protest groups such as Greenpeace
to construct tripods, “sleeping dragons,” and large banners. This preemptive action conducted
by the Coast Guard in coordination with the Miami-Dade Police Department’s (MDPD) Criminal
Intelligence Bureau and Environmental Crimes Task Force resulted in the seizure of the tools
and supplies that Greenpeace operatives had counted on to use in their disruptive protests
during the Conference. This early preemptive strike was credited by many police officials as one
of the key factors for the success of the police response to the FTAA disruptions.
Greenpeace and other environmental protest organizations have long used tactics whereby they
climb high construction cranes to hang their signs from. Other tactics involve dozens of
protestors chaining themselves together and lying down in the middle of a heavily trafficked
street. Unlike other more violent groups, such as Black Bloc and Anarchists that have resorted
to the use of projectile weapons such as slingshots, Molotov cocktails, and the hurling of human
feces and urine, groups such as Greenpeace use low-grade civil disobedience tactics that
usually result in only criminal misdemeanor charges once they are arrested by police. This tactic
allows Greenpeace protestors to avoid being charged with more serious felonies; therefore, they
are able to get their point across without having to face serious consequences related to felony
charges. This tactic forces law enforcement agencies to expend considerable time and
resources, such as the training and deployment of CUT teams to render safe the contraptions
and barriers erected by the protestors, while at the same time, it allows Greenpeace to avoid
putting their operatives in long term legal peril.
Organizations such as Greenpeace and Earth First! have formed partnerships and work closely
with The Ruckus Society to provide training to protestors in order to further their shared political
agenda of “Implementation of strategic nonviolent direct action against unjust institutions and
policies” (Ruckus Society, 2015). Many of the protestors that came to Miami in 2003 were
trained at Ruckus Society training camp in small town of Arcadia, Florida, about a three-hour
drive northwest of Miami.
Recent intelligence gathered by the newly constituted Southeast Florida Environmental Crimes
Multi-Agency Task Force (E-CAT) has indicated that a new Ruckus Society training camp has
been established in the small town of South Bay, Florida, on the southern tip of Lake
Okeechobee, only an hour-and-a-half drive from Downtown Miami. The information is being
relayed by two undercover MDPD detectives that are currently participating in the South Bay
Ruckus Society training camp. The word from the officers is that an unknown eco-terrorist
organization is currently making plans to dump large amounts of chlorine and muriatic acid into
the pools at several Downtown Miami hotels during the upcoming DRNC Convention. The
protestors’ intent is to cause the people using the pools to have eye irritation and difficulty
breathing. The undercover officers stated that the volume of chlorine and muriatic acid will be
enough to cause considerable discomfort to the swimmers in the pool, but should not be in high
enough concentrations to cause great bodily harm, or death. Along with their written report, the
undercover officers were able to take a cellphone picture of one of the banners that they
observed at the training camp. The banner stated, “This is how marine mammals feel every
day,” and had a picture of a 55-gallon drum with a skull and crossbones on it (Figure 1).
The undercover detectives could not provide any additional information at this point. It is
unknown who the planners of this toxic protest are, or what organization they represent. It is
also unknown at this time the hotels that are being targeted for this chemical agent attack.

Several of our course texts have examined instances where people’s careers were destroyed when their offensive speech—like Justine Sacco’s tweet about Africa—or arguably inappropriate actions—like Stacy Snider’s “drunken pirate” —went viral. Furthermore, Jon Ronson makes the argument that the internet is “making us lose our capacity for empathy and for distinguishing between serious and unserious transgressions.” Write an essay in which you respond to Ronson’s central claims. Does the internet and social media “give a voice to the voiceless” (Ronson)—as it originally promised—or has it morphed into something else? Whether you agree with Ronson or not, be sure to consider how we can, in the words of Hillary Clinton, “protect[ing] free expression while fostering tolerance and civility” (575). How are these issues of “free expression and tolerance and civility” ultimately important?

Before beginning your assignment, make certain you have completed the required reading from How the Wise Men Brought Malaria to Africa (link below). Next, flash forward to the 21st century, where zoonotic and vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever, Zika, Lyme, and hantavirus are frequently described in the media.
1. Look for in-depth media coverage, on the internet or news databases that delves into the root causes of an outbreak.
2. Create a story of how today’s “wise men” have often caused these outbreaks with their or our fine intentions. Create your story in whatever style (or format) you wish but include all the pieces to understand the epidemiology and environmental components.
o In other words, as long as you include the epidemiological pieces needed by your peers, you can write your assignment in professional text, or get “out of the box” with a folk tale, audio narrative, or attempt something using multimedia.
o Thinking outside the box or of possible scenarios is valuable to epidemiologists and public health workers as it allows us to contemplate what may occur in the future.

For example, Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of our nation’s leading infectious disease physicians, discussing how devastating a highly infectious respiratory illness could be to the world a mere 6 months prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Dr. Fauci was the leading expert on HIV and AIDS in the United States, and in early 2020 he was called upon to lead the taskforce to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

Write a 3 to 4-page essay identifying at least FOUR factors which led to colonial independence.
In your paper, explain which events triggered discord between the colonies and the Mother Country. Be sure to do some research on your own and use other resources to analyze the thought-processes which sparked independent thinking.
The best way to approach and organize the paper would be to create a title for each event and then discuss your findings. For example; for the first one you could write, “Event 1, The Seven Years War”. This would be followed by your narrative on how this war led to independence. The rest of the paper would follow this pattern.
Assignment Expectations
Use concepts from the background readings as well as any academic resources you can find (Wikipedia-type sources are not acceptable). Please be sure to use and cite your sources within the text and provide a reference page at the end of your paper.
Length: 3 to 4 pages, double-spaced and typed using 12 Point Times New Roman font.

As emergency managers, we have reviewed and discussed many topics regarding Business Continuity, especially as it applies to the still Essay a level english language essay help

As emergency managers, we have reviewed and discussed many topics regarding Business Continuity, especially as it applies to the still ongoing pandemic. We have also studied and compiled Business Continuity Plans as well as IT Disaster Recovery Plans. We have reviewed FEMA documentation and looked at how continuity planning has evolved. The two final aspects of continuity planning that need to be considered are the employees and the economic impacts of continuity planning. You have discussed these topics informally during discussions, however they have not truly been the focus of an assignment until now.  How can continuity planning impact employees? What should you keep in mind regarding employees when looking at continuity planning? Some ideas of things to consider: Will a backfill or influx of employees be needed? Will they need additional equipment or other support? Build upon these ideas and research on your own to find sources and further explanation. What about economic considerations? How does continuity of operations processes impact a company or organizations’ budget? How do you budget for IT recovery procedures? Look to outside sources for additional thoughts and support. Consider these aspects to compile your paper for the course. If applying them to a specific disaster or event is helpful, that is acceptable. Structure your paper in a fashion that makes sense for your arguements and supporting points. Include graphics or other details as needed.  Use a variety of credible research sources- scholarly articles, newspapers, legitimate websites (Forbes, WSJ, Harvard Business Review, etc.)- to compile a reasonable research paper. This is a final paper for a Master’s level course; please be sure your work reflects that.  Use APA format for the  paper. (https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html)  Include a Title page and References/ Works Cited. The paper should be 5- 8 pages long, double-spaced. No abstract is needed.

A text analysis paper will focus upon an area of the work that you find interesting, significant, or feel essay help free: essay help free

A text analysis paper will focus upon an area of the work that you find interesting, significant, or feel merits discussion. A text analysis paper should be fairly formal and should genuinely attempt to shed light on one or more aspects of the work. You may discuss the significance of character, plot, setting, symbol…whatever catches your fancy. Overall, I am looking for interesting and original insights concerning the reading assignment.
An ideal text analysis will be from 1-2 pages in length, double spaced, typed. Your paper will explore a problem or point of interest created by a work of literature (this includes, but is not limited to, character motivation, thematic elements, symbol, irony, etc.). Your ideas and insights will be based on information from the pages in the text we have read so far (outside research is encouraged, but not at all necessary), calling upon specific examples to illustrate the idea or issue you are exploring. Your grade will be based on the quality and depth of your insights, and on the use of specific textual evidence as support. (Avoid the obvious! Take risks! Make it interesting! This is an issue that the class may be asked to discuss at a later date.)
Possible starting places for your text analysis include an author’s life, politics, the social context of the work, philosophical musings, how and why the work evokes a particular feeling in you, cultural relevance, or the components of the text such as the significance of setting, narrative voice, imagery, or symbolism. Or, perhaps you will read a critical approach to the text and use it as a springboard for your own ideas (the library database Contemporary Literary Criticism Select is often a nice starting place). Or, you may wish to explore the relationship between elements of the text (How does setting influence character?). As we move on into the later weeks of the course, you may even wish to direct your questions toward identifying patterns between texts, and asking what the significance of these patterns might be.
The Dos and Don’ts of Text Analysis Papers:
DO NOT: Only summarize plot DO: Analyze the thematic and symbolic significance of events in the story.
DO NOT: Say you didn’t like a character DO: Explain how a character was unlikable, and why that may or may not have been the author’s intent.
DO NOT: Generalize and provide vague DO: Use specific examples from the text reasons behind your Text Analysis (including quotes, if significant).
DO NOT: Make superficial, obvious insights (eg: This Boy’s Life is about the struggles of growing up) DO: Think deeply, and look closely into the work. Notice things that a casual reader would not.
DO NOT: Simply repeat ideas mentioned in class by the instructor or by other students. DO: Build off ideas mentioned in class, adding your own thoughts and insights to the discussion.
**Remember: Text analysis papers must be typed and submitted on time. They will be evaluated on the basis of focus, development, use of evidence, creativity, and level of insight. They will count as 10% of your final grade.
