Nike, Whole Foods, And Mcdonald’s: The Use Of Information Systems

Information technology is an integral part of the functioning of all modern companies. They provide a large number of advantages that contribute to improving the functioning of organizations. Moreover, they help to attract more customers and significantly improve the customer experience. Therefore, using the example of such well-known companies as Nike, Whole Foods, and Mcdonald’s, this work will prove the need to implement information systems and what positive outcomes can come out of them.

First of all, it is necessary to determine what information systems and technologies are and what role they play in business. Research states that “any computer-based tool that people use to work with information and support an organization’s information and information-processing needs” (Rainer & Prince, 2021, p. 10). They are used to collect the necessary information, analyze it and store it. Thus, companies are given the opportunity to gain competitiveness and significantly improve their key performance indicators. Information systems are thus a necessary component of the work of any business, and organizations should conduct research to introduce the most useful.

The first company that effectively uses information technology is the world-famous fast food chain McDonald’s. Furthermore, it uses various systems for a long time and constantly introduces various innovations to its activities. In particular, they relate to the sphere of improving the customer experience since, in this area, the attitude of people to the company plays a significant role in its productivity. Hence, McDonald’s uses automated drive-thrus in its activities through the introduction of Apprente technology (Owen, 2019). With its help, the company achieves greater efficiency in the operation of customer service services and reduces the need for additional employees.

The following business that successfully implements information systems in its activities and gets a lot of customer engagement from this is Whole Foods. Thus, the company’s managers focus on the younger generation, which is more familiar and uses various technologies more often. To attract more customers and increase their engagement, the company uses smart carts that help customers navigate the store and electronic shelf scales to maintain the number of products (Pomranz, 2022). Therefore, the company uses this system to create a positive customer impression and improve the productivity of its locations.

The last organization is Nike, which, like the previous examples, copes well with the use of information systems. One of the most well-known and influential is a specialized app that is constantly being modified to improve performance. On it, the company places the goods and provides access to news and programs for customers. Another technology is Zodiac, which provides an opportunity to conduct analytical processes to improve the business strategy (Barseghian, 2019). Moreover, it allows to “crunch together its data points from customers using the Nike app and other connected devices” (Barseghian, 2019, para. 9). Henceforth, all of them contribute to maintaining the competitiveness of the organization and maintaining its popularity around the world.

In conclusion, information systems provide companies with an extensive range of alternatives to improve their work. Among the main positive aspects of their use is an increase in customer engagement, satisfaction, and impressions from using the company’s services. Another advantage is the ability to analyze and collect the necessary information. Using the example of Nike, Whole Foods, and McDonald’s, this scientific paper shows that information technology should be used by all organizations wishing to succeed in the market.
