Case 6-8 Disclosing Material Weaknesses in ICFR or Protecting the Firm from Litigation? (A GVV case)
Billy Muldoon, CPA and CFO, just finished reading a preliminary draft of his company’s annual audit report from PwC. He was pleased that they had given the company a clean audit opinion, but dismayed to learn that they had concluded and were planning to disclose that the company had a material weakness in their internal controls over financial reporting. Billy was concerned that such a disclosure might result in a large drop in the market price of the company’s stock. Included with the draft of the report was the following note of explanation from the partner in charge of the engagement as to how PwC had reached this conclusion: Dear Billy, As you know, we perform an integrated audit which combines our testing of the adequacy of internal controls with our performance of our normal audit procedures. This process starts during our audit planning process with the review of managements’ assertions surrounding the adequacy of internal controls, including those surrounding financial reporting. Unfortunately, as we conducted our work we discovered a series of deficiencies, which individually are immaterial. Taken together, we believe these significant deficiencies represent a more than remote likelihood that a material misstatement could occur and not be prevented or detected. Therefore, in accordance with Section 404 of SOX and PCAOB AS 2201, the deficiencies need to be disclosed as material in the audit report. We are also concerned that other internal control weaknesses could provide indirect evidence of managerial ability because the design and implementation of internal controls is a primary management responsibility.
Once you have had a chance to review, please feel free to reach out to me to discuss. Identified Weaknesses:
• We found inadequate segregation of duties over access to your sales information system controls.
• We found several instances of transactions on the general ledger which were not also recorded in the appropriate subsidiary ledger: these transactions were not material individually or in aggregate.
• We found that timely reconciliations of certain intercompany transaction accounts were not being performed: the individual transactions were material on an individual basis and only impacted balance sheet accounts.
• We found insufficient procedures to qualitatively assess whether the fair value of a reporting unit is less than its carrying value in order to assess goodwill impairment. Billy immediately shot off an email to the partner requesting a meeting stating he vehemently disagreed with his analysis. He further stated that he thought PwC was intentionally misclassifying these items as material weaknesses over fear of potential legal liability.
Questions
1. What are the main arguments that the partner from PwC will need to counter when he meets with Billy? That is, what are the reasons and rationalizations he should expect to hear from Billy as to why a material weakness in the ICFR does not exist?
2. What is at stake for both Billy and PwC should the partner be unable to convince Billy to accept the material weakness disclosure? Consider the requirements of certification under SOX 302 in your response in addition to those of SOX 404. Address the potential liability to both PwC and Billy’s company for failure to follow AS 2201.
3. What levers does the partner have? Where can he go to for support?
4. Assume Billy suggests the opinion on ICFR be changed from material to significant? Should the PwCpartner go along? What is at stake for PwC, Billy, and the company of characterizing the deficiency as significant if it is, in fact, material?

Directions:

NOTE: I’ve attached the reading as a file for you to answer the questions below.
Although now over 20 years old, LeRoy McDermott’s article entitled, “Self-representation in
Upper Paleolithic female figurines,” provides a useful source for this week’s lab exercise.
McDermott presents a brief history of research on the figurines before sharing his interpretation
that they were carved by women looking at their own bodies. You will note that McDermott’s
article is followed by nearly 20 pages of comments by other experts on the topic, most of whom
do not agree with his interpretation. You will also find his reply to his critics at the very end.
This week’s lab assignment involves 2 parts.
1. Read the entire article (McDermott_1996.pdf), including the comments and reply (pages 227-
271). Don’t just skim it mindlessly. These are the kinds of questions you want to keep in mind
while reading:
How does McDermott attempt to support his argument? Do you find the evidence convincing,
and why or why not?
Can you think of possibilities that McDermott does not consider? If so, what are they?
Do the commenters raise some valid points that weaken McDermott’s argument? What are they?
How much do you think we can really say about who carved the figurines and for what reason(s)
they were carved in the first place?
How might the way in which figurines are classified by archaeologists (i.e., as either a “Venus”
figurine or something else) influence the kinds of interpretations one might come up with when
studying all of the figurines from a region?
It seems the commenters all have their own notions about what the figurines can say about the
cognition of Upper Paleolithic people, and there is very little overlap among them. How can we
ever hope to get to the correct answer in this case without a chance to ask one of the carvers what
the figurine actually meant? Is this a hopeless endeavor? If so, does that mean the endeavor is
also worthless? What do we learn about ourselves by asking such questions?
2. Once you have had a chance to read the article and think about some of these issues, return to
the question at hand—What can the “Venus” figurines tell us about Upper Paleolithic cognition?
Were you convinced by McDermott’s argument? If so, what is the implication of his
interpretation for human cognition during the Upper Paleolithic? Do you think a woman at the
time would have had to be capable of symbolic thought in order to carve a sculpture of her body?
Does his interpretation rule out the presence of symbolic thought even if it wasn’t required for
one to sculpt one’s own body? Are we born with the ability to sculpt an object out of stone, or
does the very presence of a sculpture (regardless of who made it or why) serve as evidence of
symbolic thought and perhaps language used for teaching the skill? Please address the heart of
the matter as you see fit in a written document of 1-2 double spaced, 12-point New Times
Roman font.

Essay Philosophy Essay college essay help

Complete the reading and watch the lectures from Weeks 8-11 before starting this assignment.(There’s no week 9 it was spring break)

Over the last 15 years, people have come to rely increasingly on social media and other algorithmically curated systems for access to information. What news we read, which current events we learn about, the kinds of videos we watch, whose social media posts are prioritized as we scroll—all of these determinations are made not by news editors or even by us; they’re made by the algorithms powering Facebook’s and Instagram’s feeds, YouTube’s and TikTok’s recommender systems, Twitter’s timeline, and so on.

Here are the overarching questions to consider in this essay: (1) Responding to Marcuse, to what extent do social media algorithms contribute to a “totalitarian” society? and (2) Who is responsible for adopting ethical technologies: users, engineers, or democratic governance? Be sure to follow the essay outline below (It’s 3 parts).

Introduction
1. Thesis and “roadmap” of your main argument
Your response to the prompt question can be your thesis: who is responsible for adopting ethical technologies: users, engineers, or democratic governance? Be sure to click the link above to see what makes a complete philosophy thesis.

2. Engage the Opposition
Consider your opposition’s best reasons and evidence against your thesis.
Be charitable: Present the opposing side’s argument in a way that would satisfy them. Avoid fallacious misrepresentations of the opposing view. This will make your argument more persuasive!
You will respond to your opposition in Section 3, but you can add a transition that summarizes your points of disagreement. However, save the details for Section 3 below.
Choosing your opposition:
Section 3 will include your answer to the following question Who is responsible for ethical technologies: users, engineers, or democratic governance? and you will pick one of the three options to defend. In Section 2, your opposition are the two options that you argue are NOT responsible for adopting ethical technologies. Present strong and concise arguments in favor of the two options that you believe are NOT responsible.
For example, if you think users are responsible for adopting ethical technologies, then Section 2 will contain the best argument in support of engineers and the best argument in support of democratic governance being responsible for adopting ethical tech. Section 3 would then be your opportunity to argue against these two options when you argue that accountability lies with technology users.

3. Analysis (the argument in support of your thesis)
Present your argument in support of your thesis.
Demonstrate the logical reasoning in support of your thesis. Arguments are FACTS and VALUES that mutually support a JUDGMENT or conclusion. Think of each body paragraph as an argument for why we should support your thesis.
Use clear and specific real-world examples to support your reasoning. Avoid vague or hypothetical evidence.

Address the following in your analysis:
Responding to Marcuse, to what extent (if any) do social media algorithms contribute to a “totalitarian” society? Are social media algorithms a “terroristic” or “non-terroristic” form of social control (or neither)?

“By virtue of the way it has organized its technological base, contemporary industrial society tends to be totalitarian. For ‘‘totalitarian’’ is not only a terroristic political coordination of society, but also a non-terroristic economic-technical coordination which operates through the manipulation of needs by vested interests. It thus precludes the emergence of an effective opposition against the whole. Not only a specific form of government or party rule makes for totalitarianism, but also a specific system of production and distribution which may well be compatible with a ‘‘pluralism’’ of parties, newspapers, ‘‘countervailing powers,’’ et cetera” (35). [it is highly recommended to reread the first three pages of the Marcuse reading. (IN THE FILES)

Who is responsible for ethical technologies: users, engineers, or democratic governance? Which solution best serves humanity’s ends or needs?
Use clear and specific examples from the assigned reading as evidence to support your reasoning. Avoid vague or hypothetical evidence.

In each of these 6-page (or more) formal critical essays, you will be playing the role of a literary critic responding to the work of another literary critic. Your job is to pick a critical or theoret essay help

Your job is to pick a critical or theoretical text covered in  8-13 (for Essay 2), and to choose one of the following prompts [NOTE: For Essay 2, if you want to write about any of Val Vera’s poems or his book of poetry, that will “count” as your chosen text for the second half of the semester, even though it’s poetry and not criticism or theory. You would, however, have to include 1 or more pertinent critical or theoretical texts in disability studies or any other theoretical/critical discipline we’ve covered in the second half of the semester from outside or inside the syllabus (doesn’t matter which) to ground your argument about Vera’s poetry in a theoretical/critical context] :
1. Identify, explain, and defend a point of contention or difference (major or minor, as long as it’s interesting and productive for you and your reader) you have with any aspect of that critical or theoretical text’s argument, providing examples from inside and outside your chosen text to prove your point;
or
2. Qualify any aspect of that critical or theoretical text’s argument by taking it in a new direction via applying it creatively, thoughtfully, and critically to a written, cinematic, or cultural text of your choosing.
In each paragraph, be sure to quote directly and selectively from the text you’re critiquing, and to analyze those passages closely and creatively, with attention to detail and context. Avoid dwelling on points we’ve already covered in class, unless it’s a point that you made in class yourself. You may freely refer to any point already covered in class if you’re using it as a springboard to saying something new. Avoiding the obvious: With every point you make, be sure to move beyond “arguing” a point that, though true, should be obvious to any other intelligent reader in the class.  Good essays take the risk of introducing a counterintuitive or surprising argument that is somehow “new”; otherwise, it’s not worth stating at all.
Formatting: papers must be 6 pages or more, 1.5- or double-spaced, in a reasonable font (11 or 12-point Times New Roman, for instance), and with 1 inch margins all around,

Discussion question: How would you explain a diagnosis to a client? Are there circumstances in which a diagnosis would not be appropriate to share with a client? Classmate response: When explaining a diagnosis to a client, it is best that the client feels respected in these conversations. The ACA Code of Ethics (2014), explains the necessary surety that a counselor must know before diagnosing a client. This can mean that the counselor completes the necessary assessments, techniques, and treatments to analyze the data from an objective standpoint to ensure accuracy. Once the counselor is certain for a diagnosis, it is best to speak to the client in a respectful way that values their feelings about the diagnosis. I would make sure that I had available resources for the client to make sure that they did not leave my office with questions or feeling alone in any way. I would explain that a diagnosis just leads to further self-understanding. If the client is not in a mental state to hear or understand the diagnosis, it may be best for their wellbeing to not be told the diagnosis. ACA Code of Ethics. (2014). Just as in needs assessments, interviews and focus groups are common tools for obtaining information about the processes involved in the implementation of programs. Process evaluation should include specifics about purpose, questions which the evaluation will address, and methods that social workers will use to conduct evaluations.

Review the many examples of process evaluation results described in Chapter 8 of Dudley, J. R. (2020). Social work evaluation: Enhancing what we do. (3rd ed.) Chicago, IL: Lyceum Books, or in the optional resources. Select an example of a process evaluation that produced valuable information. Compare the descriiption of those results with the Social Work Research Qualitative Groups case study located in this week’s resources.

Post a descriiption of the process evaluation that you chose and explain why you selected this example. Describe the stage of program implementation in which the evaluation occurred, the informants, the questions asked, and the results. Based upon your comparison of the case study and the program evaluation report that you chose, improve upon the information presented in the case study by identifying gaps in information. Fill in these gaps as if you were the facilitator of the focus group. Clearly identify the purpose of the process evaluation and the questions asked.

Prompt for Essay on Twelfth Night: To write this paper, you will need to view the Globe production of college admission essay help: college admission essay help

Prompt for Essay on Twelfth Night:

To write this paper, you will need to view the Globe production of Twelfth Night, which is available via the following link on the library’s website:

https://www-dramaonlinelibrary-com.libproxy.txstate.edu/plays/twelfth-night-globe-on-screen-iid-154877

Write a three-to-five-page essay that answers all of the following questions:

How do issues of gender identity and alternative sexualities register differently in your reading of Twelfth Night than in your viewing of the Globe production described by James Bulman in “Bearding the Queen: Male Cross-Dressing at the New Globe” (Shakespearean Performance: New Studies. Ed. Frank Occhiogrosso. Madison and Teaneck: Farleigh Dickinson University Press, 2008: 74-91 – posted on CANVAS as “Bulman article”)? According to Bulman, how does this all-male production differ from a “traditional” version, in which men play men and women play women? Why do you agree or disagree with Bulman’s thesis? Bulman does not consider the possibility of trans people (trans men or trans women) performing in such a production. How might their participation support or undercut his thesis? If you were producing a version of this play, how would you cast it with regards to gender (traditional, all-male, all-female, cross-gender, some mixture of the above)? What factors would impact this decision?

This essay will be graded pass/fail. You have only one chance to submit your paper. Neither the Professor nor the IAs will preview your paper before you submit it. You will NOT be able to revise the paper if you fail. If you fail, you lose a full-letter grade for the semester. To pass you must observe the following rules:

Papers must be submitted as MS Word documents on Canvas by 5 pm on Wednesday, March 23. No late or Emailed essays will be accepted without documentation of hospitalization or incarceration.

You must answer ALL of the questions in the above prompt, incorporating these answers into well-structured paragraphs.

The title Twelfth Night (whether describing the play or the production) must be italicized (not underlined or put in quotation marks) every time you use it within the body of your essay. With each such usage you must make it clear whether you are referring to the printed play or the Globe production.

You must quote directly from the play and the Bulman article in your essay, following the quotation guidelines below.
Quotation guidelines:

You must quote directly from the play in your essay. This means from the written text of Twelfth Night, Broadview Anthology of British Literature Edition, ISBN 978-1-55481-036-9. For quotations shorter than four verse lines, use diagonal slashes to indicate breaks between lines:

In his first address to Hamlet, Claudius says, “Tis sweet and commendable in your nature, Hamlet/To give these mourning duties to your father” (1.2.87-88).

When you quote prose from a play, no slashes are necessary. You can recognize prose by the fact that, in prose, every sentence begins with a capital letter, but not every line on the page. Even when quoting prose, you should provide act, scene, and line numbers:

In a moment of introspection Falstaff observes, “I never prospered since I forswore myself at primero. Well, if my wind were but long enough to say my prayers, I would repent” (4.5.95-97).

For quotations of four lines or longer, use the block quotation format. The lines should be arranged as they appear in the text if you are quoting verse and arranged as a paragraph if you are quoting prose:

In his first address to Hamlet, Claudius says:
Tis sweet and commendable in your nature, Hamlet
To give these mourning duties to your father,
But you must know your father lost a father,
That father lost, lost his, and the survivor bound
In filial obligation for some term
To do obsequious sorrow. (1.2.87-92)

In a moment of introspection Falstaff observes:

If it should come to the ear of the court how I have been transformed, and how my transformation hath been washed and cudgeled, why would melt me out of my fat drop by drop and liquor fishermen’s boots with me. I warrant they would whip me with their fine wits till I were as crestfallen as a dried pear. I never prospered since I forswore myself at primero. Well, if my wind were but long enough to say my prayers, I would repent. (4.5.89-95)

In either case you must indicate act, scene, and line numbers in your parenthetical citation, as per the examples above.

Do not use more than one block quotation in any paper this semester. Do not use a block quotation longer than eight lines in any paper this semester.

You must also quote from the James Bulman essay in your paper. All quotations and paraphrases should include a parenthetical citation that lists the page number and, if necessary, the author’s name. There is no need to provide a Works Cited page unless you employ sources other than Bulman and the written text of Twelfth Night.

Examples:

As James C. Bulman notes, “By 1999, the idea that gender is performative rather than innate had circulated widely” (75).

The Globe production exploited a growing sense in contemporary culture “that gender is performative rather than innate” (Bulman 75).k

PLEASE READ THIS AND FOLLOW ALL STEPS ITS WORTH ALOT OF MY FINAL GRADE Advertising is good for rhetorical Essay college application essay help

PLEASE READ THIS AND FOLLOW ALL STEPS ITS WORTH ALOT OF MY FINAL GRADE

Advertising is good for rhetorical analysis since the purpose of advertising is innately persuasive. When doing rhetorical analysis, there is more than just recognizing that the purpose is in selling something.

For the following exercises:

Identify the Rhetorical Triangle: ethos, pathos, logos.

Identify the Rhetorical Situation: purpose, audience, genre, stance, media/design

Consider the critical implications of each text. For example, while a specific audience might appreciate a text, how might the same text offend or possibly oppress another audience? Critical thinking answers the “so what?” question; it addresses not just what the text is doing (such as selling a product) but also what a text might mean.
Analyzing Advertising: Images
Dodge
ESPN
Pepsi
Post-It
Tabasco
Analyzing Advertising: Commercials
The following commercials are rather dated—purposely—as it will prompt a close watch on the first view, as they have not been viewed as recently as other, more popular advertising.

Dominoes: Noid Your Call
Microsoft: I’m a PC and I’m 4 and a half, the latest cute Ads from Microsoft
Budget: funny TV commercial
True condoms: condom commercial
Visual Analysis of Websites
The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate the variety of ways visual rhetoric is used when addressing different audiences.

Review the following three websites: The Washington Post, Slate and The Root. The same company owns all three news sources but have very different audiences. For this exercise, compare and contrast the similarities and differences.

Some things to consider when drafting a response:

Who is the target audience for each site? How can you tell?
How does each website meet audience expectations?
How do you see yourself inhabiting multiple audience spaces?
Think about the different websites you read as a way to determine which audiences you belong to. How are they similar? How do they differ?
What do you notice about the way each site looks?
What colors do the site author’s use?
Which site has the most words?
Which one has the most pictures?
How is the layout different for each site? How is it the same?
What content is similar on each site? What content is different?
Do you see differences in the number of stories that are persuasive or informative?
What do you notice about the advertisements on each site? Do the advertisements match a certain target audience?

Your submission should be a minimum of 1250 words. It is important to submit this assignment so that you will have time to address any feedback from your instructor before submitting the video assignment, which is the second part of this assignment. Use the information in chapter five on how to structure a group proposal. Take time to review the proposals for groups in school or community settings presented in Chapter 10 and Chapter 11. Search for “substance abuse counseling activities” or some variation thereof and find a group activity suitable for a counseling group in a treatment facility. If you have an idea already you may use that. Create a group proposal and submit it on BlackBoard. This is a proposal for a single group activity. Overall what techniques will you use in your groups? What evaluation methods might you employ? I may give you feedback that may cause you to submit this assignment more than once. You have been hired by a consulting firm in downtown Chicago as the Network Manager. They are still using online essay help

You have been hired by a consulting firm in downtown Chicago as the Network Manager. They are still using a legacy token ring network in their current environment as the prior Network Manager refused to learn about updating networking standards. Your first task is it bring their networking infrastructure up to current industry standards. You will be submitting this to the Chief Information Security Officer, so it should be written like a standard BUSINESS PROPOSAL (spelling and grammar will matter). If you do not know the format of a business proposal Google it. You need to turn in:

• Spreadsheet with a breakdown of the items you plan to purchase in this upgrade scenario along with links to each item and costs (URL for each item).

• Visio (or similar program) diagram of what you are designing exactly.

• Remember, this is a BUSINESS DOCUMENT you are giving to the Chief Information Security Officer (neatness, ease of reading, appeal, organization, format, grammar, spelling, and overall design will count for your grade).

II. SCENARIO

This section will detail the current situations and all the items you have on hand and budgeting.

• You support a staff of 400 employees in a one-floor office building, with access to power, ceiling, and basement. There are no right-of-way issues. The square footage is 30,000 square feet for the office space.

i. 400 Desktop computers (remember the token ring network, what needs to change).

ii. 100 Laptops

iii. 6 Servers (one email, two files, one print, and two DNS/DHCP/AD)

iv. 2 Multi-function Printers ~ 2

v. 400 VoIP Phones

vi. The legacy token ring network

• You have an ISP, but it is not renewing your contract. You need a new one for the Internet to your office. What speed do you need?

• The computers and printers are in working order and do not need to be replaced. How do you upgrade them from the legacy token ring network to a current standard? What item needs to be added to the desktop?

• The overall budget is $125,000 for all equipment, services, etc.

• You must determine IEEE standard networking design and protocols to be used (choice of IPv4 or IPv6, justify your choice)

• Your proposal must also identify and justify at least 2 different VLANs you plan to implement.

• When it comes to the office’s overall layout, the desktops are in rows with 50 computers per row (so 8 rows total).

• The servers are all located in a server room, and this is where the current ISP drop is situated. The 2 printers are situated against the walls, one in the North and South of the floor.

• What networking equipment do you need? You need to createa wired or a wireless network and justify your decision. Routers, switches, access points, cabling, media, etc., make it your own and create something exciting but make sure it works.

•The VoIP phones are currently using power bricks to power them, located at each person’s desk. Figure out a way to use the VoIP phones without the power brick and implement it.

Many social scientists and theorists have observed that whiteness is typically not a relevant form of identity for most white Americans, whereas other racial groups closely identify with their race. Given what you now know about social stratification, social identity, and culture, why do you think whites in America typically do not consider their race relevant to how they understand themselves?
In America, people often believe that success is based on merit – effort, talent, and so on. Evidence, however, says otherwise. Considering the sociological theories and concepts you can now work with, why do you think members of societies hold true to beliefs that are not supported by evidence? Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.
 CQI Models
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read chapters 5 and 6 from the course text. Additionally, review the following resources:
HEDIS Measures and Technical Resources (Links to an external site.); you must expand the Effectiveness of Care for more details on each topic below.
Quality and Performance Measurement: National Efforts to Improve Quality of Care Through Measurement Development (Links to an external site.).
Evidence-Based Health Care Policy in Reimbursement Decisions: Lessons From a Series of Six Equivocal Case-Studies (Links to an external site.).
Defining Quality: Aiming for a Better Health Care System (Links to an external site.) [Video file]
After reading Chapter 1 through 4, you should be familiar with quality improvement initiatives including the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) HEDIS Measures. Health plans and physicians must ensure they are meeting standards set by the accreditation agencies, such as NCQA. As a physician practice manager for Dr. Jones, you have just conducted a mock survey of the patient chart data. The data shows that your physician practice is not meeting standards for two HEDIS measures.
Choose two HEDIS measures from the list below that must be implemented in a physician practice to improve patient outcomes.
You must describe the sources of data needed to conduct the two measures. What source would you use obtain the data? For example, if we were to look at patients receiving a beta blocker after discharge from the hospital, we would obtain data from pharmacy claims.
Using one of the quality improvement models (i.e., Lean, PDSA, or Six Sigma), explain how you would use the model to implement one of the chosen HEDIS measures.
Include information on how the quality initiatives chosen are linked to the rising costs of health care. Consider government mandates that have improved quality initiatives related to implementing the HEDIS measures or added to the burden of increased costs.
Your initial post should be 250 to 300 words and utilize at least one scholarly source from the University of Arizona Global Campus Library to justify your choice of improvement models. Cite all sources in APA format as outlined in the Writing Center’s Introduction to APA (Links to an external site.).
