*instructions from professor***After reading “The History of Children’s Literature” in Literature for Children you should have a clear idea Essay college application essay help

*instructions from professor***After reading “The History of Children’s Literature” in Literature for Children you should have a clear idea of the development of the genre. Of special note of course is the fact that children’s literature really wasn’t a separate and distinct genre as we have come to think of it today. It really did not exist before 1700. Indeed, there was no children’s literature in our sense of the term because there was no conception of childhood corresponding to ours.

The first type of children’s literature we will be studying is the fairytale. According to Russell in Literature for Children , “The literary fairytale exhibits many of the same features as [its oral folktale] counterparts: conventional settings in a distant “generic” kingdom, predominantly flat and stereotyped characters, an accepted magical element, and, typically, the requisite happy ending.”

As you read fairytales this semester, think about how closely (or not) they fit this definition.

Charles Perrault (1628-1703) is known as one of the finest writers in the fairy tale genre and his work is the first we will be reading and studying. His versions of many of the tales have become the standard in the popular imagination.

“Cinderella” is arguably the most widely known fairy tale of all time and its many variants are known around the world. Indeed some scholars think that the tale may have had its beginnings in 9th century China. As you read the tale, you might ask yourself why this fairytale is so perennially popular. I think one of the key reasons why this is so is because we all like to see the underdog rise to the top. But there are many other reasons as well: themes of family relationships, sibling rivalry, social status, jealousy and magical power. We like to see virtue rewarded and evil punished.

cinderella.jfif

Perrault’s version of the tale of Cinderella is the most famous and he invented the glass slipper. His writing style is delightfully detailed and we enjoy transformations: the coach from the pumpkin, the horsemen from mice and the footmen from lizards, etc. Keep all of these details in mind since later in the semester we will be comparing this version to Aschenpultel, the Cinderella story of the Brothers Grimm.

“Sleeping Beauty” is another well known fairytale by Perrault, and once again students may already be familiar with the same aspects of the story. Perrault’s version is different, however, in that it seems to be able to be easily broken in two halves. The idea of appetite plays a major role in the story and will appear in many others. Indeed the queen’s cannibalism in the second half of the story is shocking. Note what happens to her. Are there other emotional appetites in the tale?

sleeping-1.jpg

There are many critics who share a psychological approach to literature who interpret this story as being one of adolescence, the movement from childhood to adulthood. As we know, this is a time of rapid change as one grows up and some readers believe the story has sexual connotations. For example, according to this line of thinking, pricking the finger and drawing blood may represent menstruation and the many versions of the story seem to share parents who try to prevent their children’s sexual awakening. Do you agree with this interpretation? Are there other details in the story that would support it?

You were undoubtedly familiar with “Little Red Riding Hood” long before you started this course. Yet many are surprised by the ending in the Perrault version. This is one more instance of the cannibalism that is present in many fairytales. Many modern day readers find this shocking since many of the versions of these tales popular today have been sanitized or “Disneyfied.” Still we cannot ignore the role of violence in fairy tale literature.

In “Little Red Riding Hood” we have a child heroine who is threatened by appetite, an important theme in fairy tales. Like the other works “Little Red Riding Hood” is open to a variety of interpretations. Do you look at it as a cautionary tale? Should children learn to be very wary of strangers after reading it? Are there other interpretive possibilities? Some view this story as one of burgeoning sexuality with the wolf’s advances looked upon as seduction. Whatever way you decide to interpret the tale, you have to ask yourself what is its purpose and whether images in the tale, including the red hood itself have a particular meaning.

Little Red Riding hood gif-1.gif

“Blue Beard” is a story that few if any of my students are familiar with as they begin the course. The tale reflects a theme Perrault was interested in: the relationship of appearance vs. reality or what is on the outside vs. the inner character. In this story women seem to judge the man by external features. Blue Beard is a very monstrous and beastly husband—we find many such husbands in fairy tale literature. Actually, some people don’t regard this tale as a fairytale at all since with the exception of the blood on the key, nothing seems particularly magical or supernatural.

What then is the meaning of the story? Why is there such an emphasis on the key? The indelible blood? Can this tale be read as a cautionary tale against infidelity? Perhaps the tale is saying that jealous love can be dangerous. If so, is this appropriate reading for children?

In the final fairytale for this week, “Puss ‘N Boots” we shift away from some of the shocking violence present in the others to a lighter tale with some humorous touches. Our hero is tricky and witty but the story does not contain the same kind of magic we’ve seen in the other tales. What do you think is the main point of the tale? Why is it so popular with children? Perhaps because children love animal tales and this story gives a child hope that even the humblest can succeed in life.

After you have this week’s readings, please proceed to Discussions and answer two questions for this week.

cash receipts essay help online: essay help online

You were recently hired by a large retail bookstore chain. Your training involved spending a week at the largest and most profitable store in the district. The store manager assigned the head cashier to train you on the cash register and closing procedures required by the company’s home office. In the process, the head cashier instructed you to keep an envelope for cash over and short that would include cash or IOUs equal to the net amount of overages or shortages in the cash drawer. “It is impossible to balance exactly, so just put extra cash in this envelope and use the cash when you are short.” You studied accounting for one semester in college and remembered your professor saying that “all deposits should be made intact daily.”

Required

Draft a memo to the store manager detailing any problems you see with the current system. This memo should address the issue of the accuracy of the cash receipts number. It should also answer the following question: Does this method provide information to the company that would enable someone to detect whether theft has occurred during the particular day in question? Your memo should suggest an alternative method of internal control for cash receipts.

Separate from the memo: Research the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. What are your thoughts on this legislation? What are some of the key aspects of the legislation? Do you think it has accomplished its purpose? Compare the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Select one American healthcare organization (“covered entity” in HIPAA parlance) that frames your research. Describe the organization, its components assuming it’s a healthcare “system,” its business in general, and any additional descriptive information that will inform your reader about your subject matter.  Describe and define at least one the laws focused on compliance within the healthcare sector that came up during our course. Research the law itself, any legal cases that were based on that law, and the critique of the law that you found through your research. Of course, if your selected covered entity was involved in such litigation, or has published their critique, include that information too.  In addition to compliance laws that directly target healthcare institutions, countless other laws apply to them. Use the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s website to discover whether your selected institution has been awarded intellectual property rights for their trademarks, patents, or IP. Describe whether and how it protects its trade secrets. Describe for your reader some of the most prominent criminal or tort risks that your entity faces; or perhaps has been involved in.  In addition to risks in the realms of criminal or tort law, every organization faces the potential risk of enduring a cyber-attack or other incident that must be followed by a forensics investigation. Keeping the focus on your organization and the healthcare sector, research and discuss an incident or case in which such an institution was compelled to go through the forensic investigation process. There are no sectors exempt from those incidents or cases, regrettably, so be diligent and you will find one to discuss.  Conclude the Portfolio with your overall assessment of whether the legal system—from compliance mandates, to IT, criminal, and tort laws, to forensic investigations—benefits, hurts, or otherwise affects the institution. Assume the role of information security and privacy risk consultant in this section.

Provide a 500 word (or 2 pages double spaced) minimum reflection.

Use of proper APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those must be properly cited.

Share a personal connection that identifies specific knowledge and theories from this course.

Demonstrate a connection to your current work environment. If you are not employed, demonstrate a connection to your desired work environment.

You should not provide an overview of the assignments assigned in the course. The assignment asks that you reflect how the knowledge and skills obtained through meeting course objectives were applied or could be applied in the workplace.

Internal Controls and Ethics Analysis – Walmart de Mexico
In 2012, Walmart was in the middle of a hug bribery scandal in Mexico. The company allegedly paid governor officials as much as $24.5 million dollars to provide faster access to store building permits (Rarick, 2018). Why does the U.S. cared about what Walmart was doing in Mexico? Many companies complained that it put them at a disadvantage in competing with other companies abroad. Does enforcing a code of ethics on business abroad makes sense? In this summary, we will explain what happened with Walmart de Mexico and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
The New York Times did an investigation about Walmart de Mexico in 2012. What they found was an incredible amount of corruption and an incredible amount of disregard for the law in Mexico. This is hard to believe, but when we look at how widespread the corruption was among Walmart executives in Mexico we just realize, when it comes to other countries, they just ignored regulations and did not care at all.
There were several other cases of corruption in Mexico, but the one that I would like to highlight is a Walmart built in 2004 in a very specific area in Mexico near ancient pyramids. The Aztecs referred to these pyramids as the sun and the moon and it is considered a very historical area. Because of that, there were certain zoning rules and regulations that prevented Walmart from building near the pyramids. But they decided they wanted to build the new Walmart store one mile away from the pyramids. Officials said that Walmart could not do that for a number of reasons. First of all, the traffic congestion there was already terrible, and they did not want to add more congestion. They also did not want to shut down the local businesses there, and bringing a Walmart would cause local business to leave. Another problem was that, when it comes to ancient ruins, anthropologists and archeologists could have said that there are ancient ruins in the area where this Walmart was built and, as a result, they did not want to have that building there for excavations needed to be done. Compare and contrast three incoterms. Explain why your choices are superior to your teammates when writing your comments..
2. PLEASE PROVIDE COMMENTS TO THE TWO DISCUSSIONS AND SHOW LINKS WHERE THEY CAN GO TO GET MORE INFO. EXPLAIN WHY YOUR CHOICES ARE SUPERIOR TO THESE DISCUSSION POST.
DISCUSSION#1: EXW Incoterm is probably the most favorable one from a sellers point of view, there is very little risk involved. The seller will not have to carry the burden of shipping it or any issues with the cargo. This makes the buyer totally responsible for making sure the shipment arrives safely at their location. There might be some complications, the seller will still have to be involved  in exporting documents and clearances if the issues were not sorted.
This is quite similar to FCA terms but with FCA terms it is more likely that the seller runs certain risks depending if they need to drop the shipment at a specified location.  “Most Incoterms experts argue that FCA is the best Incoterm to use when the buyer is arranging the main carriage of the goods, which means the international transportation”
Another interesting Incoterm is CPT Incoterm, the risk is divided more equally between the seller and buyer, CPT is often used in air freight, containerized ocean freight, small parcel shipments and “ro-ro” shipments of motor vehicles. With CPT the seller is responsible for the goods, commercial invoice, export packaging. The buyers are responsible for payment of goods, cost of import clearance.

DISCUSSION#2: Incoterms are usually related with the end product in terms of shipping and distribution for companies. There are 11 established incoterms (categories are typically determined via the delivery location and the individuals responsible for each leg of the journey. There are 4 established groups for incoterms (E,F,C,D) which further splits off to other subdivisions within the established group. For ex: Incoterms in group C (CFR, CIF, CPT, and CIP) are relate to the fact that the seller is responsible for all responsibility to the buyer’s destination port, once it’s loaded onto the buyers transport, the buyer assumes 100% responsibility for the goods.
Incoterms in Group D (DAT, DAP, DDP)  relate to the destination of the goods. Delivered at Terminal (DAT) refers to when a seller delivers the good to the destination, waits for the products to be unloaded, then assumes all responsibility until the goods reach the buyers designated destination. Delivered at Place (DAP) slightly differs from delivered at terminal good are delivered ready to be unloaded at the designated destination in DAP, instead of waiting for them to be unloaded, then to deliver it to the designated destination in DAT. Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) assumes essentially 100% of the responsibility on the seller. Everything from clearing customs, paying duties, unloading, packaging, and shipping. ALL cost and risks related to export are covered and handled by the seller in DDP.

On Election Day, Oregon made history by being the first state in the nation to decriminalize the possession of custom essay help: custom essay help

On Election Day, Oregon made history by being the first state in the nation to decriminalize the possession of hard drugs. The ballot measure, Measure 110, decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, oxycodone, methamphetamine, and others. According to OPB (Links to an external site.), the measure, which was approved by 58.46% (Links to an external site.)of Oregonians, reclassifies the possession of small amounts of drugs as a civil violation. This reclassification is similar to a traffic violation and would result in a $100 fine or participation in a health assessment. In addition to the reclassification, the Drug Policy Alliance (Links to an external site.), a non-profit organization, reported that Measure 110 will use excess marijuana tax revenue (estimated to be over $45 million and projected to be up to $129 million by 2027) and savings from the reduction in arrests, incarcerations, and prosecutions to expand the access to drug treatment, peer support, housing, and harm reductions services. Proponents (Links to an external site.) of the measure highlighted the prevalence of drug use and drug-related deaths in the state and argued that the new approach would save lives, save families, reduce convictions and arrests, and lead to a 95% (Links to an external site.) reduction in racial disparities in drug arrests. Opponents, on the other hand, argued that the measure was “reckless” and that its passage would lead to increases in the “acceptability” of the hard drugs. The measure, which does not apply retroactively (Links to an external site.) to past convictions, takes effect (Links to an external site.) 30-days after the election, but the provisions pertaining to decriminalization of the hard drugs will not take effect until February 1, 2020.

While Oregon was the first state in the nation to decriminalize hard drugs, it was not the only state that made headlines for working towards the decriminalization of drug use on election night. Voters in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota approved the legalization of recreational marijuana and Mississippi voters approved the legalization of marijuana for medical use. While federal law prohibits marijuana use, the Washington Post (Links to an external site.) reported that about one-third of states have now passed measures that “ease the criminal consequences” associated with its use. Oregon also passed (Links to an external site.) Measure 109, which legalized and approved the use of psilocybin, also referred to as magic mushrooms, for mental health treatment at licensed facilities. And, Washington, D.C. voters approved (Links to an external site.) the decriminalization of psychedelic substances, which would not legalize the substances, but make them a “lower enforcement priority” for police officers. However, the initiative needs to be approved by the D.C Council and then sent to Congress for review.

Your article of choice should be finalized by Friday, Feb.4th within the discussion board . Minimum article length for this paper should be no fewer than 10 pages, (not including citation pages) and be published within the past 10 years.
Composing a Genre Analysis
Using the following guiding questions, define and describe the basic genre features of the article you’ve chosen to study:
1. What is the rhetorical context? Consider the author, purpose, audience, and topic of the article you’ve chosen to study.
2. What conventions are present in the text? Consider the structure, language, tone, and reference conventions of the article.
3. Why is this article representative of the genre of article you have chosen? You made need to refer to chapters 7, 8, 9, or 10 depending upon the genre and academic discipline you are working with for this analysis paper.
Once you have described the genre features of the article, consider the choices the writer or writers made when they wrote the article: Why did they write the article in the way that they did? How do these genre features work together? To what degree does the subject article adhere to the expected conventions of a scholarly article? (See Chapter 6 in Insider’s Guide. You might also find it helpful to peek ahead to Explain how you know the article is or is not representative of the genre.
Be sure to stay focused on the rhetorical and genre features of the article. Do not get bogged down with the issue discussed in the article. Your concern is not what the author says, but how the author says it.
The introduction to your paper should name the article you will analyze, describe the primary methods you will use to analyze its genre features, and explain the goal of your analysis – to analyze an academic article and learn more about the rhetorical context and structure.
The body of your paper might be organized around the two guiding questions, or you might focus on one or two of the genre features that are of specific interest in your article. Of course, you can subdivide the features you are analyzing to address specific elements of the larger categories. For example, if you were analyzing conventions of language, you could address the use of qualifiers, the use of first person, and so on, providing examples from the article and commenting on their usefulness for the writer.
In your conclusion, reflect on what you’ve found. Are there other rhetorical or genre-related issues still to be addressed? What other rhetorical strategies could be explored to analyze the work further? How effective are the strategies the author used, given the intended audience?

1st Discussion for participation credit : Do you have a lifestyle appropriate for investment?
11 unread reply.11 reply.
Let’s share your opinion (and experience) by replying to this discussion topic. Your participation in this Discussion will be counted toward “Participation credit.”

——————

Do you have a lifestyle appropriate for investment?

We observe that many people are not financially independent after retirement. The lifestyle depending on government assistant program, such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, has always been uncomfortable at best.

An important issue have to be addressed:

Why many people are not financially independent after retirement? That has to do with their lifestyles in deep side. What is your current life style? Is it sustainable after retirement?

–> You may think that rich people or high income people don’t have to worry about the question of financial independence at retirement. But, mathematically, more spending than savings will lead to bankruptcy. Almost all the people have to worry about their current lifestyles whether sustainable or not. This matter proceeds the concept of investments. Jack Bogle (the founder of Vanguard mutual fund managing company) asks you to think to which lifestyle you belong among The Borrowers, The Consumers and The Keepers.

The Borrowers

If your life is consistently built upon credit cards, you have to worry whether your lifestyle belongs to “The Borrowers.”

Recommended reading: WSJ, “Six-Figure Incomes—and Facing Financial Ruin” (Refer to the attached file)

Without a dramatic and painful changes in spending habits, the financial future will end up with debts at retirement. Those people have to keep working even after retirement age.

Check:

Are you spending freely with credit cards?
You don’t have any stable/predictable income stream so that you don’t have any plan for net savings.
Are you are accumulating debts even with your current income?
What if current income stream stops for this lifestyle? This lifestyle does not have any cash cushion for emergency. Therefore, the Borrower lifestyle is borrowing not only currently but also for future contingent emergencies.

What is an implications as to investment? If yes to above check questions, you would not have any surplus money for investment. Change spending habits to the Keepers mindset (see below).

The Consumers

Many people belongs to this lifestyle than the Borrower mindset. The Consumers lifestyle live on paycheck not on debts fortunately. If you spend all of your earned paycheck, then you belong to this style. This mindset enjoys life by spending maximum whichever they want to buy up to their paycheck. What are the issues with this mindset? First, they can’t make major purchases, such as homes. Why? such big items need savings for a down-payment. The Consumers mindset can’t save money. As a result, they have to rent many things when it comes to big items, renting apartment, etc. Second, as happens with The Borrowers lifestyle, this Consumers lifestyle does not have any cash cushion for emergency. Therefore, the borrower lifestyle is rending big items and borrowing for future contingent emergencies.

Check:

Are you spending freely up to paychecks?
You accumulate neither debts nor net savings.
What is an implication as to investment? If yes to above check questions, you would not have any surplus money for investing. Change spending habits to the Keepers mindset (see below).

The Keepers

The Borrowers spend beyond paycheck; The Consumers focus on spending the max up to paycheck; The Keepers focus on net savings.

The difference in The Keepers’ lifestyle is that they make a long-term commitment (like planning for buying home, education) and have a financial plan to build wealth over time. This mindset encourages net savings. They do also have credit cards but for convenience, not for spending. They do also spend what they earn but after setting a certain amount aside for savings, say at least 10% of income.

How much is your net worth now? Net worth is the difference between the values of your assets and liabilities. Everyone needs to assess their own lifestyle and calculate net worth before thinking about investments.

Use the instructions and use the required material

This assignment involves the Week 5 (specifically Feb. 3) readings. No other research, references or sources are required or permitted. Your response must be no shorter than 1500 words and written in clear academic prose. You may submit online through Brightspace or in hard copy if and only if handed in at the start of class on Feb. 3rd. This assignment has no media component and is based solely on the Feb. 3 readings:

Mitchell/Jacoby 115-128
(PDF pack) The Lotus Sūtra (Saddharmapuṇḍarīkasūtra) chap. 1: Watson, Burton, trans. 1993. The Lotus Sutra. New York: Columbia University Press: 1-22.
The basic task here is to seek an understanding of what Mahayana Buddhism is and understands itself to be through a close examination of a small sample of the Lotus Sutra, one of Mahayana’s most famous and influential texts. First, read the Mitchell/Jacoby selection carefully, taking note of the features and concerns of Mahayana Buddhism as they are presented not only in the abstract (115-118) but also as they are exemplified further in particular Mahayana sources (121-128). Note that one of the sources discussed (briefly) is the Lotus Sutra itself (126-128). With this basic first understanding of what Mahayana and the Lotus are, read the Lotus Sutra chap.1 selection carefully and respond to all of the following:

Briefly (a few sentences each will suffice, think roughly 400-500ish words for this section)

You may first be somewhat dazzled by the “acid trip” descriiptive quality of the text, and so it will help to identify the overarching structure of the chapter which is in fact fairly simple and repetitive. Define briefly what you take this structure to be.
Why do you think there is such an investment in the descriiption of the assembly or audience?
What is the meaning and function of the ray of light, who knows this and why?

More substantially (bulk of response, think roughly 1000 ish words for this section)

Mahayana is both continuous with, and a novel departure from early Buddhism (for convenience, “Hinayana”): where do we see this in the Lotus? In other words, what are the “Hinayana” features of this text, and what are the distinctly Mahayana ones? Try to mark out and explain those moments where you think distinctly Mahayana ideas are coming forward in the clearest way. Note that our short selection of the Lotus does not necessarily contain all the various features of Mahayana mentioned in the textbook, only some. Which ones?
Put the chap. 1 Lotus reading alongside the chap. 3 burning house parable related in Mitchell/Jacoby. What is the meaning and significance of this parable, and how does it help to make sense of the text’s Chap.1? Is there anything in Chap. 1 that is especially mysterious or difficult to understand until and unless we know the burning house story?

In your responses, be sure to make use of selective quotes from both textbook and Lotus as follows: “… ” (Mitchell and Jacoby, 2014: ###); “… ” (trans. Watson 1993: ##).

Select a topic from the following:

An automated banking machine

Online shopping

A government tourist information service

Analyze your chosen topic from a ‘stakeholder’s’ perspective, that is:

2) The analysis should consist of at least three parts: Introduction, a detailed identification and prioritization of all stakeholders, and the discussion of the topic within its individual and societal context.

3) Using images to support the analysis such as stakeholder mapping and stakeholder matrix.

4) Title and Reference pages

Please write an essay answering ONE of the following questions in at least 1200 words:

1. The trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, or Maafa, was hardly a “trade.” It was a war-inducing process of mass kidnapping, the centerpiece in a global system of expropriation, dispossession, exploitation, and production (of wealth and ideas). How did this system affect the societies and economies of Africa, Europe, and the Americas? Note: in thinking about this question, do not limit yourself to economic factors alone (i.e., consider social relations, culture, ideologies and ideas, etc.)
2. Although the first part of this class is principally about slavery, we spent a great deal of time talking about freedom. Indeed, modern slavery compelled much of the Atlantic world to debate the meaning of freedom—especially in the 18th century. Using examples from the readings and lectures, compare how the enslaved masses of North America and Haiti understood the meaning of freedom, with that of poor white settlers and
revolutionary leaders. Pay attention to the various constitutions they produced and the Enlightenment philosophy supporting their ideas.
