The main goal of the study “Impact of social media on self-esteem” is to demonstrate that Facebook, as the most prominent and commonly utilized social media platform, has a significant influence on young people’s self-esteem. The use of a mixed method approach in this research is intended to improve the authors’ study methodology and offer deep insight into the trajectory of the relation. This investigation would distract people’s attention while also assisting them in analyzing their excessive use of social media during their most valuable hours of life. Furthermore, the effects of social media usage on their social esteem should be examined.
According to the authors’ literature analysis, the key benefits and aspects of social networking websites have been noted by certain studies. Facebook, for instance, provides people with a sense of independence and individuality, enhances their confidence, and supports them through difficult times. In addition, many academics have determined from their studies that excessive use of Facebook leads to despair and a decline in personal wealth. In general, some experts argue that the internet, rather than social media platforms particularly, has an impact on people’s self-esteem. Thus, the scholars, utilizing various literature sources, implemented an argumentative approach regarding the discussion of the issue.
Research problem, question, methodology
Concerning the gap, questions, and methods, the article’s overall methodology encompasses five distinct sections, including data, variables, inclusion criteria, sample and sampling techniques, and statistical models. For this study, primary data was gathered, and surveys were delivered and filled out by the selected respondents. The use of social networking sites by people is the independent factor in this research. Individuals’ self-esteem is the dependent variable, which is influenced by social behaviors. Rather than confounding the analysis by including multiple social media sites, the study’s primary goal was to indicate the impact of Facebook use on self-esteem.
Data analysis and results
A total of 150 trainees from IoBM were chosen based on a 95% confidence level and an 8% interval. To examine the theory, each responder was provided with a questionnaire that included a self-esteem test and a statement about how much time they spend on Facebook. Furthermore, a correlation test was applied to the data described in the descriptive analysis. The correlation test revealed a negative association between the two factors, including time spent on Facebook and self-esteem. In terms of the investigation, one hour spent on Facebook each day led to a 5.574 reduction in a person’s self-esteem index.

Due to scheduling difficulties, the sample size was confined to 150 people. The scope of this study is limited, and it may be susceptible to constraints. One of the article’s intrinsic disadvantages was that the participants were not observed; instead, they were provided with questionnaires. As a result, the research’s findings are contingent on the individual’s honesty and integrity. Secondly, the study did not encompass all social media websites. Of all the social media platforms, only Facebook was determined to be representative.
In fact, the limitations and drawbacks of the article can be described not only from the scope of the study but also according to personal factors. Since convenience sampling was employed, there are considerable questions about whether the sample is a genuine representative of the whole population. Despite the fact that the questionnaire was well-designed, the students’ and respondents’ honesty cannot be assessed, as well as objectively documented. Self-esteem varies from individual to individual, and the variables that cause it to alter vary as well. Therefore there is no measure as a precise assessment of self-esteem. Furthermore, respondents may not have been accurate in their replies due to discomfort or other social aspects.

Thus, it is feasible to state that adults should monitor the influence of social media sites on their children and restrict the amount of time they spend on these online social networks as a result.
